Do I need an account to use BorgLayer?
No. BorgLayer is wallet-native, so you connect your wallet instead of creating an account. Public tools like WHOIS lookup and domain appraisal work with no login at all. You only connect a wallet when you are ready to buy or manage something.
What is BorgLayer?
BorgLayer is a wallet-native platform that brings domains, DNS, hosting, email, a domain marketplace, domain appraisal, and Wyoming DAO LLC formation together in one place, with payments settled in USDC on the Base network.
What does non-custodial mean here?
It means BorgLayer never holds your money. Payments settle directly on-chain from your wallet, and every action is authorized by your own signature. You keep control of your domains, servers, organization, and keys.
Payments
How do payments work?
Payments settle in USDC on the Base network. You pay directly from your connected wallet. You will also need a small amount of ETH on Base to cover network fees when you transact on-chain.
Which network and currency do you use?
BorgLayer uses USDC on Base. Base is a fast, low-cost Ethereum layer-2 network, which keeps transaction fees small.
Are payments refundable?
Blockchain payments are final once confirmed. For questions about a specific charge, contact support before transacting again.
Domains and DNS
How do I register a domain?
Use Domain Search, type the name you want, and BorgLayer checks availability across many extensions with live pricing. Register the one you want and pay in USDC. The domain is then yours to manage.
Can I manage DNS on BorgLayer?
Yes. Every domain registered through BorgLayer automatically gets our authoritative nameservers and a live DNS zone. You can add and edit A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, NS, SRV, and CAA records in the DNS editor.
Can I use a domain I registered elsewhere?
Yes. Point that domain’s nameservers at BorgLayer to manage DNS here, or bring it in and verify control with a TXT record.
What is the WHOIS lookup for?
The WHOIS Domain Lookup shows a domain’s registrar, creation and expiry dates, status, and nameservers. It is free and needs no login, and is useful before you buy or transfer a domain.
Domain Appraisal
How does domain appraisal work?
The appraisal engine estimates a domain’s value from its length, extension, keywords, meaning, and market comparables. It returns four market scenarios, Investor, Flow, End User, and Premium or Moonshot, and shows the factors behind each number.
Is an appraisal a guaranteed price?
No. An appraisal is an automated estimate for research and pricing guidance, not a guaranteed sale price. Actual value depends on buyer demand and market conditions. See the Domain Valuation Disclaimer for details.
Why are the four values different?
Each value reflects a different kind of buyer. Investor is the most conservative, Flow reflects a faster marketplace sale, End User is what a motivated business might pay, and Premium or Moonshot is the upper strategic potential.
Marketplace
How does the marketplace work?
The Domain Marketplace lets you buy and sell domains with on-chain escrow. The buyer’s funds are held safely until the domain transfer completes, so neither side has to trust the other.
How do I sell a domain?
List a domain you own, set your price in USDC, and the marketplace handles the escrowed transfer when a buyer commits. You can run an appraisal first to help set a fair price.
Hosting and Email
What hosting does BorgLayer offer?
VPS Hosting gives you your own virtual server. Each Starter plan includes 5 websites with free SSL, databases, and subdomains. If you run hosting for others, Server Administration lets you manage nodes and create accounts for your customers.
Can I create email on my domain?
Yes. You can create mailboxes on your domains that send and receive in the built-in webmail or any mail app using the server mail.borglayer.com. SPF, DKIM, and DMARC are configured for your domain.
Is there an email API?
Yes. The Transactional Email API lets you send email from your verified domains programmatically. Create a key, then POST to https://api.borglayer.com/api/emails. It is ideal for receipts, notifications, and password resets.
DAO Formation
What is a Wyoming DAO LLC?
A Wyoming DAO LLC is a real, state-recognized limited liability company for a decentralized organization. It gives your DAO legal standing while keeping its on-chain, member-governed nature.
How does DAO formation work on BorgLayer?
Start at Launch a DAO, choose your organization’s name, provide a contact, and pay the all-inclusive fee in USDC. BorgLayer prepares your Articles of Organization, includes a registered agent, and files with the Wyoming Secretary of State.
What do I get after forming a DAO?
Formation creates a dedicated organization for your DAO, separate from your personal account, with its own dashboard to manage members, run governance proposals and votes, and coordinate a treasury.
Is DAO formation legal advice?
No. Forming a legal entity has real consequences, so review the details with your own advisor where appropriate. BorgLayer provides the formation service, not legal advice.
