Do I need an account to use BorgLayer?
No. BorgLayer is wallet-native, so you connect your wallet instead of creating an account. Public tools like WHOIS lookup and domain appraisal work with no login at all. You only connect a wallet when you are ready to buy or manage something.
What is BorgLayer?
BorgLayer is a wallet-native platform that brings domains, DNS, hosting, email, a domain marketplace, domain appraisal, and Wyoming DAO LLC formation together in one place, with payments settled in stablecoins (USDC, USDT, USD1, USDG) across Base, Arbitrum, Polygon, BNB Chain and Robinhood Chain.
What does non-custodial mean here?
It means BorgLayer never holds your money. Payments settle directly on-chain from your wallet, and every action is authorized by your own signature. You keep control of your domains, servers, organization, and keys.
Payments
How do payments work?
Payments settle in stablecoins across five networks: USDC on Base, Arbitrum and Polygon, USDC/USDT/USD1 on BNB Chain, and USDG on Robinhood Chain. You pay directly from your connected wallet and choose your network + stablecoin at checkout. You will also need a small amount of the network's gas token (ETH, BNB, or POL) to cover fees.
Which network and currency do you use?
BorgLayer supports multiple networks and stablecoins: USDC on Base, Arbitrum and Polygon; USDC, USDT and USD1 on BNB Chain; and USDG on Robinhood Chain. Pick whichever chain and stablecoin you already hold — every option settles through the same verified, non-custodial escrow.
Are payments refundable?
Blockchain payments are final once confirmed. For questions about a specific charge, contact support before transacting again.
Marketplace
How does the marketplace work?
The Domain Marketplace lets you buy and sell domains with on-chain escrow. The buyer’s funds are held safely until the domain transfer completes, so neither side has to trust the other.
How do I buy a domain on the marketplace?
Connect your wallet, find a domain, and click Buy. Choose your network and stablecoin — USDC, USDT, USD1 or USDG across Base, Arbitrum, Polygon, BNB Chain or Robinhood Chain. Approve the payment to fund the escrow. The seller then transfers the domain to you; once you confirm you have received it, the funds are released to the seller. No account is needed — just your wallet.
Do I need an account? How does connecting a wallet work?
No account is required. Click "Connect Wallet" and approve the connection in your wallet (MetaMask, Coinbase Wallet, and others are supported), then sign a one-time message to prove you control the address. Signing is free and does not cost gas. Your wallet is your identity on BorgLayer.
How does escrow protect me as a buyer?
Your payment is locked in a verified, non-custodial escrow smart contract — it is not sent directly to the seller. The seller is only paid after you confirm the domain is in your account. If something goes wrong, you can open a dispute. Neither party has to trust the other; the contract holds the funds until the trade completes. All escrow contracts are publicly verified on each chain's block explorer.
How long does the seller have to transfer the domain?
After you fund the escrow, the seller transfers the domain — either by pushing it within the same registrar or by providing an authorization/transfer code. This usually completes within hours. A protection window applies before a dispute can be opened: up to 72 hours for cross-registrar transfers and 24 hours for same-registrar pushes. Most transfers finish well within these windows.
What if the seller never transfers the domain?
If the domain does not arrive within the transfer window, you can open a dispute. A 2-of-3 multisig resolver reviews it and can refund your full payment. Your funds are never at risk of disappearing — they remain in the escrow contract until the trade either completes or is refunded to you.
How do I sell a domain?
List a domain you own, set your price, and add your notification email so we can alert you when it sells. When a buyer funds the escrow, you will receive an email — transfer the domain to the buyer, and once they confirm receipt the funds are released to you automatically. BorgLayer charges a flat 0.99% platform fee, enforced on-chain, with no hidden costs.
Domains and DNS
How do I register a domain?
Use Domain Search, type the name you want, and BorgLayer checks availability across many extensions with live pricing. Register the one you want and pay in USDC. The domain is then yours to manage.
Can I manage DNS on BorgLayer?
Yes. Every domain registered through BorgLayer automatically gets our authoritative nameservers and a live DNS zone. You can add and edit A, AAAA, CNAME, MX, TXT, NS, SRV, and CAA records in the DNS editor.
Can I use a domain I registered elsewhere?
Yes. Point that domain’s nameservers at BorgLayer to manage DNS here, or bring it in and verify control with a TXT record.
What is the WHOIS lookup for?
The WHOIS Domain Lookup shows a domain’s registrar, creation and expiry dates, status, and nameservers. It is free and needs no login, and is useful before you buy or transfer a domain.
Domain Appraisal
How does domain appraisal work?
The appraisal engine estimates a domain’s value from its length, extension, keywords, meaning, and market comparables. It returns four market scenarios, Investor, Flow, End User, and Premium or Moonshot, and shows the factors behind each number.
Is an appraisal a guaranteed price?
No. An appraisal is an automated estimate for research and pricing guidance, not a guaranteed sale price. Actual value depends on buyer demand and market conditions. See the Domain Valuation Disclaimer for details.
Why are the four values different?
Each value reflects a different kind of buyer. Investor is the most conservative, Flow reflects a faster marketplace sale, End User is what a motivated business might pay, and Premium or Moonshot is the upper strategic potential.
Hosting and Email
What hosting does BorgLayer offer?
VPS Hosting gives you your own virtual server. Each Starter plan includes 5 websites with free SSL, databases, and subdomains. If you run hosting for others, Server Administration lets you manage nodes and create accounts for your customers.
Can I create email on my domain?
Yes. You can create mailboxes on your domains that send and receive in the built-in webmail or any mail app using the server mail.borglayer.com. SPF, DKIM, and DMARC are configured for your domain.
Is there an email API?
Yes. The Transactional Email API lets you send email from your verified domains programmatically. Create a key, then POST to https://api.borglayer.com/api/emails. It is ideal for receipts, notifications, and password resets.
DAO Formation
What is a Wyoming DAO LLC?
A Wyoming DAO LLC is a real, state-recognized limited liability company for a decentralized organization. It gives your DAO legal standing while keeping its on-chain, member-governed nature.
How does DAO formation work on BorgLayer?
Start at Launch a DAO, choose your organization’s name, provide a contact, and pay the all-inclusive fee in USDC. BorgLayer prepares your Articles of Organization, includes a registered agent, and files with the Wyoming Secretary of State.
What do I get after forming a DAO?
Formation creates a dedicated organization for your DAO, separate from your personal account, with its own dashboard to manage members, run governance proposals and votes, and coordinate a treasury.
Is DAO formation legal advice?
No. Forming a legal entity has real consequences, so review the details with your own advisor where appropriate. BorgLayer provides the formation service, not legal advice.
